Wisconsin Idea Seminar: Seminar Alumni Comments
"I shall never be content until the beneficent influence of the University reaches every family in the state."
Charles Van Hise,
President, University of Wisconsin, 1906
Each May some forty new and existing UW-Madison faculty and academic staff members are immersed in the educational, industrial, social, and political realities of Wisconsin on a five day bus tour around the state.
The following Seminar alumni not only survived the trip around the state, they found the experience to be incredibly rewarding, memorable and a valuable component when developing their own outreach when they returned to campus. Here are their some of their comments:

Rob Tanner, Wisconsin School of Business
Wisconsin Idea Seminar, 2009
"Find a way to go... you come back with a much better sense both of your
colleagues and of the state..."

Nancy Wong, Consumer Science
Wisconsin Idea Seminar, 2009
“Make the time because it is well worth it…you can never get this kind of experience on your own”.
Professor Wong's audio slide show
Sissel
Schroeder, Anthropology
Wisconsin Idea Seminar, 2007
"The trip for me was a great benefit because I took the trip shortly after
I got tenure... I had been very focused on my research and had not taken
the time to really explore the state. (Wisconsin) is a beautiful place with
lots of interesting people, interesting geology, interesting history and
interesting ancient past and I had really been kind of stuck on the little
island of Madison.

Mahesh Mahanthappa, Chemistry

Wendy
Crone, Engineering Physics
Wisconsin Idea Seminar, 1999
"One of the reasons that I came to Wisconsin, as opposed to choosing other institutions where I could have started a faculty position, was because it was clear there was a slightly broader definition of what faculty do here at Wisconsin... and the Wisconsin Idea Seminar allowed me to see ways in which that service and outreach component could be actualized."
