Project Description:
Simons Investigators program aims to provide a stable base of support for outstanding theoretical scientists, enabling them to undertake long-term investigations of the fundamental questions. A Simons Investigator is appointed for an initial period of five years. Renewal for an additional five years is contingent upon the evaluation of scientific impact of the Investigator. An Investigator will receive research support in an amount initially set at $100,000 per year.
Eligibility:
UW-Madison may submit two individuals in each field.

Internal Competition Application Instructions:
Applications for internal competition: Send your single pdf application for internal competition to gsgrants@grad.wisc.edu with subject line "Simons" by Friday, November 16, 2012. Nominations from departments are welcome. Your application for the internal competition should include the following information:
--Current CV (should include up to date publication list, current and pending research support and list of postdocs and Ph.D. student supervised)
--Field in which individual is being nominated
--2 page letter of nomination from department chair describing the distinctive scientific contributions of the nominee (focusing on the past five years) and including a discussion of a couple important papers.
For the individuals selected, the application must be submitted via e-mail. The applications are due on Friday, December 14, 2012.
