Project Description:
The purpose of this Johnson Controls Request for Proposals (RFP) “Advancements in Battery Energy Storage Systems” is to solicit Applications from the University of Wisconsin (Madison and Milwaukee) for funding of research and development of transformational advancements in Systems technology, Materials technology, and Manufacturing processes related to battery energy storage systems. There are several topic areas of interest to the sponsor. Here are the topic areas:
Topic 1: Impact of Contaminants on Li-Ion Chemistry using Materials Characterization and Molecular Modeling
Topic 2: In-Situ Sensor Communications and Transduction
Topic 3: Battery Management Algorithms and Applications
Topic 4: Vehicle System Analysis and Optimization
Topic 5: Vehicle Pack Safety Analysis
Topic 6: Advanced Materials for High Energy Density Li-ion batteries and beyond
Topic 7: Signal Processing and Communications
Topic 8: Advanced Pb-acid Battery Development
The grant period will be for one year in the range of $50,000 to $100,000.
NOTES: Allocation and licensing of intellectual property rights will be negotiated prior to the funding of any proposal, and such rights will be a consideration in whether to fund the proposal. In addition, funding projects will be immediately eligible for a second and third year or support from continuing Johnson Controls RFP Funds.

This RFP is limited to faculty and academic staff from UW-Madison or UW-Milwaukee.

Internal Competition Application Instructions:
Applications: Send an email message to gsgrants@grad.wisc.edu with subject line "Johnson Controls " by Monday, November 28, 2011 at 5 pm with your completed proposal. Proposals should be sent as a single pdf document. Proposals should also be uploaded to a WISPER record and sent through typical routing. Submission instructions should indicate that "Proposal will be submitted to Johnson Controls by the Graduate School." Graudate School will forward proposals to Johnson Controls for review.
