Project Description:
The IGERT Program is intended to establish innovative new models for graduate education and training for scientists and engineers in a fertile environment for collaborative research that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries. It is also intended to facilitate diversity in student participation and preparation, and to contribute to a world-class, broadly inclusive, and globally engaged science and engineering workforce.
Trainees on UW-Madison NSF IGERTs will receive remission of the out of state portion of tuition. In addition, the Graduate School will provide $4,000 per trainee per year to cover additional shortfall in tuition, fees and health insurance. Shortfalls above the Graduate School supplement will be the responsibility of the administering department.

The number of proposals UW–Madison may submit is limited to one.

Internal Competition Application Instructions:
Notice of intent: Send an email message to gsgrants@grad.wisc.edu with "NSF IGERT" in the subject line by Monday, March 26, 2012 to inform us of your intention to submit a proposal. Please include the following in your email message:
--PI name
and co-PIs
--Title of proposal or brief (one sentence) description of your proposal
Applications for internal competition: Send your application for internal competition to gsgrants@grad.wisc.edu as a pdf file with "NSF IGERT " in the subject line by Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Your application for the internal competition should include the following information:
--PI name and co-PIs
--Title of proposal
--Brief Project Summary including vision, goals and anticipated impact of the proposed project (no more than 3-5 pages). The summary should also present a plan for addressing any shortfall in funding for tuition, fees and health insurance. Trainees on UW-Madison NSF IGERTs will receive remission of the out of state portion of tuition. For the project selected, the preliminary proposal must be submitted using Grants.gov or Fastlane. Information about campus procedures for Grants.gov and Fastlane is posted on the RSP Web site. The required letter of intent is due on Monday, May 1, 2012 at 5 pm CDT. The full proposal is due on Friday, July 2, 2012 at 5 pm CDT.
