Project Description:
The primary objective of this Funding Opportunity Announcement is to increase the health disparities resarch workforce by stimulating and supporting dissertation resarch. The mission of NCMHD is to promote minority health and lead, coordinate, support and assess the NIH effort to reduce and ultimately eliminate health disparities. This grant will provide full-time salary support and modest research funds for up to two years for eligible students to facilitate completion of their doctoral research project and dissertation in a research area relevant to the NCMHD mission and research priorities. This announcement is intended to stimulate the participation of individuals from the following groups:
- Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups
- Individuals with disabilities
- Individuals from socially, culturally, economically, or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds that have inhibited their ability to pursue a career in health-related research
Eligibility:
The number of proposals UW–Madison may submit is limited to one.

Notice of intent: Send an email message to gsgrants@bascom.wisc.edu with "NIH Dissertation " by Tuesday, May 26, 2009 to inform us of your intention to submit a proposal. Please include the following in your email message:

--Fellow Name
--Gradute Program
Applications for internal competition: Send your application for internal competition to gsgrants@bascom.wisc.edu with "NIH Dissertation" by Friday, June 5, 2009. Your application for the internal competition should include the following information:
--PI/PD Name
--Fellow Name
--Graduate Program
--Brief Proposal Description including information on how the dissertation research relates to the mission of NCMHD (no more than 1 page)
The NIH NCMHD Dissertation Research Award to Increase Diversity program solicitation will provide detailed proposal preparation and submission instructions. For the project selected, a complete proposal must be submitted using Grants.gov. Information about campus procedures for Grants.gov is posted on the RSP Web site. The proposal deadline is Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 5 pm CST.
