Project Description:
This fellowship competition is to provide faculty scientists and engineers with career enhancing opportunitities through their association with the DoD while conducting unclassified basic research in critical areas of research. The NSSEFF program will focus its funding on innovative projects that have the potential for significant long-term impact. Risk-taking is encouraged, however, all proposals must demonstrate solid judgement and rationale. Applicants selected for NSSEFF awards are likely to have received awards or honors, or have a named position or a position of distinction, such as an elected fellow of a national professional society. A institutional letter of intent is required for this fellowship. The notice of intent to submit will facilitate the submission of this letter.
Award Amount:
$850,000 per year maximum
Length of Award:
Period of five years
Eligibility:
UW-Madison may submit more than one proposal, but needs to submit an institutional letter of intent.

Notice of intent: Send an email message to gsgrants@bascom.wisc.edu with "DOD-NSSEFF" in the subject line by Friday, June 19, 2009 to inform us of your intention to submit a proposal. Please include the following in your email message:
--name of PI, title, faculty position, department affiliation, e-mail address
--paragraph describing proposed research topic
--technical category most appropriate for research topic (see end of Section 1 of funding announcement for categories)
Applications/White papers are due at DOD by Tuesday, July 7, 2009.
Applications must be submitted electronically.
Each application must have an individual nomination letter from the Graduate School. Please contact Heather Daniels hdaniels@uwmad.wisc.edu to make arrangements for this nomination letter.
