Project Description:
The institutes will advance fundamental materials research by coordinating international research and education projects involving condensed matter and materials physics, solid state and materials chemistry, polymers, metals, ceramics, electronic materials, biomaterials, and in general, the design, synthesis and characterization of and phenomena in materials to meet global and regional needs. Awards will range in the amounts of $600,000 to $1,200,000 per year.
Eligibility:
UW-Madison may submit only one full proposal. The Graduate School will convene an ad hoc committee to review the proposals internally and select the projects to be forwarded to NSF.

Nomination Instructions - Please email the name of the names and departments of the PI and Co-PIs, and a 1-2 sentence description of your proposed project to gsgrants@bascom.wisc.edu by June 4.
Application Instructions:
The following information should be submitted for final review: Project description of 2-3 pages in length should include information about the following: scientific thrusts, international components, educational, outreach and diversity activities, and broader impacts. A budget is not required for the internal competition. Five copies of the project description should be submitted to the Graduate School Dean's Office, 333 Bascom Hall, by Wednesday, June 11, 4:30 p.m. Include a cover sheet with complete contact information for the PI, and names and departments of the Co-PIs.
For the project selected, the complete preliminary proposal must be submitted using FastLane (see the campus procedure posted on the RSP Web site).
