Welcome to the Office of Industrial Partnerships
UW-Madison is one of the most prolific research universities in the world. Among U.S. public universities, we are ranked third in the nation for 2010 in research expenditures; we have ranked in the top five since the National Science Foundation began collecting statistics 20 years ago.
Ensuring that research results benefit the public comprises a significant component of the University's mission. Of the more than $1 billion in new sponsor-funded research annually, research sponsorship with industrial partners accounts for nearly $34 million of that total, reflecting a heavy emphasis on applied research. The extent of this examination of real-world research, combined with the increasing need for U.S. business and industry to remain globally competitive, make UW-Madison's work in technology transfer more critical than ever.
The University’s mission of discovering and transmitting knowledge and providing service to the public creates an environment that is conducive to the conception and development of many forms of intellectual property. When the results of our research efforts have commercial value, these efforts can often be enhanced through the use of patents, copyrights or other forms of protection.
The Office of Industrial Partnerships (OIP) helps investigators work with private industry to foster industry-sponsored research and further technology commercialization. We'll quickly assemble the right team to assist you.
