The preliminary examinations must be passed within five years if the candidate does not hold a master's degree or within three years if the candidate does hold a master's degree. Copies of the dissertation must be given to the final examination committee at least two weeks before the scheduled final oral examination. Contact the department for more information.

A thesis based on research performed is required; a public presentation of the thesis results is required. A single M.S. degree should be obtained by the end of five full semesters of credit (summers excluded). Reports from the Guidance and Evaluation Committee and the advisor are required once a year.
