ISIS
The Integrated Student Information System (ISIS) is the "behind-the-scenes" software program providing data to assist UW-Madison staffers in their efforts to oversee the continued enhancement of functionality for student administrative services spanning everything from SOAR and admissions through graduation.
GWIS (Graduate Web Information System)
GWIS was created by the Graduate School to allow electronic communication between departments and the Graduate School Office of Admissions. GWIS is a copy of Graduate School applicant data found in ISIS. This is the system you will use to track and update an applicant's progress in the admissions process.

SARA (Student Academic Record Administration)
SARA was created by the Graduate School for tracking satisfactory progress of enrolled graduate students. SARA consists of "live" data pulled directly from ISIS, in addition to tracking data developed by the Graduate School (e.g. requests for grade changes, late enrollment, overloads, and degree completion processing). SARA can provide a list of students by programs, or it can display comprehensive information about one student at a time.

GPAS (Graduate Prospective Applicant System)
The Graduate School Prospective Applicant System (G-PAS) is a database of information on individuals who have expressed interest in attending the UW-Madison Graduate School or have participated in programs that serve qualified targeted students (McNair, SROP, CIC SROP, etc.). Authorized faculty and staff can search the database to identify and communicate directly with potential applicants who are interested in their field.

New User Access Steps: To become an authorized user, you must view the 20 minute G-PAS training video (you must have Quicktime software installed). When you have viewed the entire video, please contact Dorothy Sanchez at dsanchez@grad.wisc.edu to activate your authorization/access.

The Query Library is a repository of pre-written queries available to faculty and staff who work with benefits, curricular, human resource, payroll, and student data.

Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Excel is a software application that features calculation, sorting, filtering, conditional formatting, graphing tools, pivot tables, and macro programming capabilities.

If you have no experience using Microsoft Excel, start with chapters 1-4 in Excel 10: Essential Training, and then go on to chapters 6-12 (and any other chapters of interest) in Excel 10: Essential Training.

Microsoft Access is a software application that serves as a database tool for gathering and understanding all your information -- and providing a convenient way to enter, navigate, and report out your data.

24/7 Lynda.com Courses (free!): Lynda.com offers self-paced online course free to campus users by logging in with your netID and password. If you have no experience using Microsoft Access, start with chapters 1-7 in Access 10: Essentials Training for a basic overview. Chapters 8 and 9 on reports and pivots might also be helpful but not necessary for basic querying. Now you're ready for Access 2010: Queries in Depth. If you have some experience with Microsoft Access but need help with queries specifically, go right to Access 2010: Queries in Depth.
Google Docs
Google Docs is a suite of products that lets you create different kinds of online documents, work on them in real time with other people, and store your documents and your other files -- all online, and all for free.

Qualtrics
Qualtrics is a web-based survey service that is available for use by all UW-Madison faculty, staff and students by logging in with your NetID and password. The UW-Madsion Qualtrics Survey Hosting Service allows the campus community to easily create surveys, collect and store data, and produce reports.

Leadership and Administrative Professional Development Opportunities
Fully Prepared To Lead – Ongoing
“Fully Prepared to Lead” is a comprehensive, competency-based development program designed to help individuals master the knowledge, skills, and tools for successful leadership. Participation is open to everyone and is not limited to those in formal supervisory or management roles. It is FREE to all UW-Madison employees and offers up to 20 different learning modules. Interested individuals can be certificate participants (complete specific module requirements and projects) or professional development participants (complete modules of interest). Annual Conference for the Office Professional – April 17, 2013
This is an annual one-day conference hosted by the campus Office of Human Resource Development. There is a $100 registration fee and is described as an informative day of skill building, networking, and learning practical tools that can be applied back on the job.
