Committee on Diversity Initiatives (CODI)
History
CODI was originally created in 2005, in order to address issues of diversity and climate in the Graduate School Administration (GS) and Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP). After pursuing its original goals, as well as responding to the climate survey data from 2006, CODI has refined its aim to one goal: improve work climate within GS and RSP (through or by): bridging commonalities; sharing stories; increasing communication; safe environment for sharing; enriching dialogue. This refocus has allowed us to adjust our vision, and better assess the needs of RSP and GS.
One of the unique aspects of the committee’s makeup between GS and RSP is that there were distinct differences between each unit which added to the depth of our guiding principles. After we developed a common mission statement, our central focus was to conduct a climate survey, to fully appreciate the detail and makeup of our workplace climate. This was crucial in gauging our efforts and developing appropriate programming.
Mission
To create a work environment that promotes awareness and acceptance of individual differences, fosters mutual respect of others, and enables faculty, staff, and students to achieve their highest potential.
CODI actively works to improve understanding through addressing issues of climate and diversity.
